Do Dells still use proprietary PSU connectors?

The reason I ask is that would mean that people who need a bigger PSU for the 6800 would need to buy their PSU directly though Dell, assuming they sell large ones, or they will need to buy a new motherboard AND PSU.

I have read about alot of people being stuck with their PSU because they have a proprietary connector.

I'll see if I can find something when I get home.

I would chop off the connectors and use the right ones where necessary...seriously.

Just curious, WHY DO people LOVE DELL?! my info tech teacher just purchased a Dell with 3.4Ghz Prescott processor, with 1G of PC2100 ram LOL!! how great running at 3:2 FSB divider. Then with some crappy integrated video which can't run games for $hit. I told him and I told him not to buy one, he complained about it after about a month when he tried to play games. MOST OF THEM WON'T INSTALL!

Maybe we should also add this to enhance system performance!!

My first PC was a Dell when I switched over from Mac to PC. If you have no software then it's not a bad deal. Businesses that need some kind of customer support go with dell as well.

I can't tell you how many times I've heard people tell me that they have a great videocard only to find out it's a GF4 MX. But it's a GF4 isn't it? Doh!

Most people haven't got a clue. Just like I can't tell the difference between lipstick people can't tell the difference between PC2100 and PC4000.

The problem with my dell was that when I wanted to upgrade it or tweak it I was in for a pain. The case, powersupply, and motherboard were proprietary. That's not cool. So I scraped the whole thing and built my own.

I think it's the main 12v ATX connector that's shapped differently. I wouldn't want a bad soldering job on that.

I hate those boxes, but I do like their laptops, almost as much as IBM and Voodoo.

I'm thinking of getting the non-branded XPS version, sicne anything equivalent from IBM is $4500+ CDN, and it's only $2200 from Dell. Either I'm going very cheap (celeron w/ intel extreme and all cheesy parts likely), or I'm going to get a laptop with nuts to last me for a few years (like my old P][ 366 thinkpad with the "AwesomeGra"* NeoMagic! )

I'm going to wait until the summer comes and see what the prices are before planning my vacations.

[Crashman]

I thought Dell switched to standard ATX power supplies when they started using P4 boards that needed the ATX12v connection, and that people on these systems only had fitment issues if their AC power plug was located in a different position than on the Dell power supply.
