Do I need a new motherboard?

I have a MSI b75ma-p45 motherboard and I want to know if I can upgrade the i5-3470 to a i7-4790k processor without getting a new motherboard.

Unfortunately, at minimum you'd need an H81 or B85 motherboard(after flashing bios). Preferably a Z97/H97 revision

compatible chipsets

B85 - H81 - H87 - Z87 - H97 -Z97

You'd be best off with the Z97 as it supports the unlocked multiplier for your unlocked 4790K
