i wondering which one i should get? kind of on a budget so im trying to avoid the UPS if possible. my area does not experience a lot of outages but Murphy's law right? i just want to make sure my PC does't get fried, saving my work is a minor issue since i like to spam CTRL+S

specs are here:

i really cant go much more cause im stretching my budget as is (in my area the total cost increased to around $150 more, no rebates)

The need for a power bar depends on your area, really. If you live in a place with non-constant voltage or frequent power outages, you need a power bar.

A UPS is just an extra component for convenience. It's never really necessary.

Get a power bar. The more joules of protection it states, the better.

your profile pic... it is AWESOME for answering questions! 😀

power bar? is that the same as a surge protector?

what wattage of AVR do i need? just the basic 500W?

You should be using the OPTI UPS SS2000 since you'll want to plug the monitor into it too along with any broadband modem and/or router.

I suggest shopping around because you can get the OPTI UPS SS2000 cheaper than what Newegg sells it for.

FYI, you can buy a power bar that doesn't have any surge protection so a power bar is not the same thing as a surge protector.

Thanks 😀

As ko888 mentionned, I erroneously assimilated power bars to surge protectors. Thanks for the correction.

They look pretty much the same, but the power bar does not have a protection rating. The surge protector will have a protection rating measured in joules. The higher the rating, the better the surge protector.

You can get a pretty decent surge protector without needing to shell out a bunch of cash. If I were you, I'd definitely look into it!
