I currently have a 2080 RTX vanilla, i am considering upgrading it but i cant find many options anywhere, 3070 and 3080 is all sold out for me everywhere atm, i was planning to upgrade my gfx card specifically for cyberpunk 2077 and ray tracing,
but all i can find is a 3090 which is way to expensive and i don't want to put a 3090 in my asus strix z390-h pci 3.0 mobo plus i cant afford it.

So is it worth ugrading from a 2080 rtx vanilla to a 2080 rtx super? or there will be little to no benefit at all for cyberpunk 2077? as i want the best experience i can rest of pc is solid,

Solution
Im not sure if my pc will bottleneck or not with a 3080 or not, and money is a but of an issue, so 3070 is looking the better option atm as I can't find any 3080`s, a question though just to make sure i dont facew any bottlenecking or other issues.

Is upgrading from a 2080 to a 3070 worth it? generally for future-proofing and also for cyberpunk 2077

My PSU is a be quiet! Straight Power 11 750W Power Supply

My MOBO is a ROG Strix z390-h gaming CPU core i9 9900k 32 GB ddr4 2133mhz since I bought this pc in 2019 will I face any issues with my current hardware with the 3070 it looks like ill be buying.

I was looking to get a MSI GeForce RTX 3070 Gaming X Trio 8GB but they are out of stock so im...

Heck no. The RTX 2080 Super is 3-5% better performance than the vanilla RTX 2080, not worth it at all. Wait for the RTX 3070 or RTX 3080 to eventually come back in stock and then buy one of those.

Here is my PC specs, core i9 9900k 850 EVO SSD ( HDD) 16 gig ram ddr4 2133mhz 2080 rtx, now i ordered a NVME ssd evo plus 500gb and 16gig more ram of 2133mhz ( cause its cheap) and i already had 16gb of it so will have 32gb now. Based on those specs which do you think i could run out of the below specs for cyberpunk 2077.

What monitor are you using? What resolution/frame rate are you aiming for?

I HAVE LG MONITOR 4k , 1080p is good enough for me usually dont need anything above that, 60-100fps is enough usually. Just worried about the ray tracing specs from above saying you need a 3070 to run on high settings with ray tracing on which is what i want. but not sure if my pc can handle that.

I have a similar build to you, so here is what I'm thinking based on my experience.
  • An RTX 2080 is an "almost there" 4K GPU, its ok, but never feels quite fast enough. Combine this with Cyberpunk 2077 and compromises are going to need to be made.
  • You'll want to enable DLSS performance mode. That'll upscale the resolution from 1080p to 4K for a huge performance boost.
  • If the ray-tracing in Control is at all indicative of what you can expect in Cyberpunk 2077, even with DLSS in performance mode you won't have a whole lot of processing power left over for ray tracing, so you'll have to keep the ray tracing at lower settings, or else live with a console-like frame rate.
Bottom line, you'll have to find the combination of rasterization and ray tracing settings that give you tolerable frame rates; Cyberpunk 2077 with a RTX 2080 on a 4k monitor is never going to be very ideal. As soon as you're able to buy a RTX 3070 (honestly, a RTX 3080 is really what you need) that'll be what'll give you the results you're looking for.

Only YOU can determine whether it's worth it. We're a community of strangers with differing values, among other things.

Forget the futureproofing thing; it's an effort in futility. You can't win at this game, ever. It's even worse than Solitare.

Play your games, but drop the resolution and other graphics settings.
If fps goes up significantly, then the cpu can handle a stronger gpu.
If fps is largely unchanged, then the system is likely cpu or ram frequency limited.
Unfortunately, this can't be tested with Cyberpunk and other non available titles; obviously, it's not available yet, nor are any performance benchmarks.

Was just wondering if my current system MOBO and CPU can handle a 3070

Hold your 2080 until the 3070 and 3080 are back in stock in large quantities. Trying to upgrade to a Super or Ti is not going to give enough of a boost to justify the money.

I can get a 3070 somewhere some are in stock, just deciding if upgrading from a 2080 is worth it, and if the rest of my system can handle the 3070 which i posted specs above

A RTX 3070 gives almost the same performance as a 2080 Ti; seeing as how the RTX 3080 is an additional 30%-ish faster than a 2080 Ti, I'd say that's the one you should go for, particularly for a game like Cyberpunk 2077 at 4k.

You're the last person who should be worrying about a 3080 bottlenecking their system. Not only are you playing with GPU-bound settings (4k ulta, rtx on) but you have a i9-9900k for crying out loud, the best consumer gaming CPU until earlier this year when Intel 10th gen rolled out. Pick whatever GPU you want, but passing up a RTX 3080 because you're worrying about being bottlenecked is almost funny.
