Hello,

I was just wondering, if a pc part is purchased such as a motherboard, CPU or even GPU and is left unused for a year or two more or less, will they degrade or be unusable? or will they be fine and can be built with regularly?

Thanks

If stored correctly parts don't know what year it is.

It's when it was left in the garage or back seat of the car or sitting by the kitchen with moisture kind of stuff. But even than most of the time it still works but glitch number goes up.

But it's the parts bought and not at least tested when they arrived you never know if it was shipping or a bad part to begin with if later you put together and it's defective.

That being said I have old old parts and one motherboard with a AMD Duron at least 24 years old and not much love by me to care where it ends up over the years. Bumped into it a few days ago and going to see if even can still game. The darn thing just won't die but cools it still has life.

Okay will that’s good to know, cause i have purchased parts myself in the store and they’ve been laying here in my drawer for just a month or two until im able to get the rest, so i was just wondering if that’s okay, i do have a year+ warranty on each part just in case. And that’s crazy you found that, 24 years? damn, you should let me know if it still works, would be amazing if it did! good luck :)

Similar experience here with Pentium 4 cpu + motherboard, it still runs since being recently pulled out of retirement for many years.

Capacitors do have an unused lifespan, talking decade or more, packaging does help prolong, being in a drawer for even a couple of years is nothing.

Search capacitor lifespan unused
