DOA

It's happened to most of us at some point. We shed blood, sweat and tears researching components for our next "baby." Hours spent in forums, reading reviews, surfing the net for the best prices from a reputable online company. Finally, the joyous day arrives - all of the parts are at the home. We innocently race home to bring our baby to life and carefully assemble the parts. The moment of truth comes and...the Be0tch don't work. Troubleshooting ensues - feverish posts on THG and calls to the mfr. that reveal you have received a brand-spankin new faulty component. This happened to me in 2001 when I was building my last computer. It didn't happen just once, not twice - three times before I decided I was going with a different mobo mfr. I was a little slow in that realization, but I got there eventually!

What I'd like to know is:
1. What's YOUR funniest/best/worst story about DOA components?
2. What mfrs are the worst about sending faulty components? Give as much background info as you can on this one. Would especially love to hear from Crash on this one.

When I was doing my first build about 5 years ago I wound up with two DOA Asucks board in a row. I was pissed and didn't want to wait for another New Egg RMA so I went down to a local computer rip-off store and spent about $60.00 more for a cheesey Epox Mobo then I should have... but it worked. Unfortunately that was AFTER an innocent frying pan was beaten within an inch of it's life against a formica counter top.

Not quite an rma story, but sort of.
I used to visit a new/used shop quite regularly. At that time, a lot more setup was done with jumpers. They had a bin full of mobos and stuff that had failed rma (too many scratches, etc). I would buy some of the better looking boards at $2. each.
About 1/3 of the time, all I had to do, was set the jumpers in the right place, and clear the cmos. They tried putting me off, by taking the bios chip out, so I was restickted to mobos that I had bios for at home. They have since stopped selling those boards. I did build a hundred, or so systems from "dead" boards though.

Well let's see:
I asked for an RMA on a Chaintech board Dec 14th. They gave me a number two weeks later. I know they got the mb right after the 10th. I just asked support what was up because I haven't heard a peep. They asked me to fill out a form and send it in. WTF? GO [-peep-] YOURSELF! You have my mb, WTF is going on? Buy from these morons at your own risk! Never again for me!

Sorry, I don't get DOA components.

I still have to get a DOA component. Sure, staying away from Asus and MSI help a lot... I had 1 MSI board that needed to be replaced 3 time to finally get one that last more than 3-4 days.. Still working .., in my mom's rig. First MSI and last one too.
