First off I had another post of a similar topic but it seemed to be asking the wrong question I guess. I'm really hoping to find anyone that has a Passive 3D setup for their computer that isn't using a 3D Vision or HD3D ready graphics card. I want to know if I can watch/play games using a passive 3D monitor w/glasses without having to upgrade my graphics card. I currently have an ATI Radeon 4890 which is more than comperable to many 3D ready graphics cards. Just to get it out there I know for active 3D displays like Nvidias 3D vision and AMDs HD3D they require a 3D ready graphics card and glasses and monitor and IR thing, I know that. I am desperately trying to find out about the passive 3D and everyone only seems to know about the active 3D but the active 3D information is displayed readily everywhere. Sorry for my frustration but if you have any info Im begging 🙂

The problem with Passive 3d is that it needs an active monitor.

Think of it this way, your screen has to be able to display 2 images(Left and Right eye) polarized differently(so that the glasses block the opposite eye). This is how passive glasses work. Think of this as the way the theaters do it.

So one way or another, you most likely need a new screen at the least.

You can technically use red/blue or red/cyan Anaglyph

It is FREE :)

I know that and plan to buy the new monitor but what I really want to know is about the graphics card. Does the graphics card have to be able to be 3D vision or HD3D ready (which are active 3d setups) to play 3D on a passive display. If I only need the monitor that is fine with me but if I buy a 3D monitor (which are different from the active 3D displays as active flashes 1 full screen to one eye and 1 full screen to the other eye at lease 60 times per second where passive displays two different lights at one time) will I be able to play games in 3D using my Radeon 4890 graphics card which is not HD3D ready but is stronger than many HD3D ready graphics cards.
