VGA is analog. The quality of the image depends on the quality of the graphic card's D/A converter (or in your case, the VGA-DVI adapter's D/A converter), the quality of the monitor's A/D converter, the quality of the cable, and the amount of RF interference in the immediate vicinity which the cable can pick up. Poor performance in any of these can result in blurry or washed out images, or interference like waviness or lines washing over the image.
DVI-D, HDMI, and DP are all digital. The only difference a poor quality GPU interface, cable, or monitor interface circuitry makes is how long the cable can be before you lose the image. If the interface (on both your GPU and monitor, plus the cable) support the desired resolution and refresh rate, and the cable is short enough, it will work and all will produce the same image (other than differences in monitor settings).
