Does hyperthreading have a serious effect on clock speed?

I am considering buying either the i5 3750K or the i7 3770K when they are released, and I have always thought that all hyperthreading did was create virtual cores out of the existing one, but i read a passing remark in a forum that said that each core is running at half clock speed. On my computer i will be gaming mostly but will also do some video editing/rendering, will the hyperthreading have an effect on the gaming perfomance?

thats rubbish, they are not full cores, perhaps about 80% as efficient if both sides are loaded, but they are not running at 1/2 speed.
