when they patch it, How much performance hit will consumer cpu take.

Yes its patched. The patches were teady for windows 10 a few days after they announced it.

Intel discovered it. Since they discovered it they likely went to mitigations before informing everyone to cover their tail.

I read up to 15% or more on hyper threaded models. Non hyper threaded arent affected.
