I was in the midst of a Skype conference call when an embarrassing conversation was launched by my wife...half-panicked I hit the mute button for sound (the little speaker symbol on my task bar). Then I got to wondering - well I didn't go into control panel and mute the microphone specifically.

So the question is - was the microphone muted or did my conference call hear this embarrassing conversation?

I'm using a Gateway M-1634U with Vista Home Premium if that makes a difference.

OOOOooops....

Good question, so I checked. Without going into your control panel, it wasn't muted. Even then, you'd have to either change mics to a non-functioning one, or disable the functional mic.

Remember that new whatever you wanted? You now have some really good ammunition...
