Does SP2 fiddle with keyboard/mouse voltages?

Hi --

I have two Windows XP Pro computers that share a monitor, PS/2 mouse and
PS/2 keyboard via a D-Link DKVM-2K 2-port KVM switch.

These two computers had been running through the KVM switch for a while
without a problem. But ever since one of the PCs had SP2 installed, things
are not working as they should.

Let's say PC#1 is the one with SP2 installed; PC#2 only has SP1.

If PC#1 is the only computer that's on, I can't get adequate mouse control.
The mouse will not track properly on the screen.

As soon as I switch on PC#2, however, everything works fine.

When I switch on PC#2, the little green LED on the KVM switch that shows
which PC is active suddenly becomes about 20% brighter, and the mouse tracks
properly.

If PC#2 is the only PC that's on, I have no problems using the mouse.

The only thing different between when this was working and now is the
installation of SP2 on PC#1.

I can't find anything wrong with any of the hardware on either machine.
Device Manager shows no problems -- although Device Manager on PC#1
shows a ton of information in the new Details tab that I neither understand
nor know how to use/modify.

I don't have another XP Pro box running SP1 at this site, to see whether SP2
is really causing the problem.

But I do know that this had been working properly for a long time prior to
the installation of SP2 on that PC.

Does SP2 do anything to tweak power and/or power conservation settings that
would affect voltages on the PS/2 keyboard or PS/2 mouse ports?

Thanks,
CL

Try switching to which ports on the KVM you are connecting the hosts.
Sounds like you have a bad KVM.
