Question Does the CPU version number change its compatibility with its socket?

Hello,

I'm researching a CPU upgrade for my Dell Precision T5600 workstation. I currently have two E5-2665 chips. I'm looking at getting a pair of E5-2680 chips. However, there are four versions of the E5-2680 CPU (it looks like there are a lot of CPUs with different "V" version numbers). Will the version number change whether or not the CPU will play nice with the socket in my system?

Thanks in advance,

Rob

If you mean 2680, 2680v2, 2680v3, 2680v4, yes because they are completely different cpus. Each cpu has a model number to differentiate it from other cpus. When the model number is different, you might as well be comparing a honda civic to a ford f150 and wondering why parts aren't fitting.
