[SOLVED] Does the NATIVE resolution of a monitor affect FPS?

Hi, I currently have a 1280x720 monitor and mostly play valorant. My specs are 1080ti, i5-9400F and 32GB ram. On the native res of the monitor I mostly get 240fps. I wanted to buy a new 1920x1080 native resolution monitor, but I was wondering if buying it will decrease my FPS a lot. Or will the FPS stay the same as the GPU will be pushing to the native resolution of the monitor? Sorry if this sounds stupid, I'm just not sure what to expect.

THanks.

Solution
At 720p those 240fps are probably the limits of that i5 9400f.

But yes moving from 720p to 1080p will undoubtable drop the fps.
How much?? No idea in all honesty, the 1080ti is still a fairly powerful gpu.

Why not enable 1080p dsr resolution in nvidia settings and try it at downscaled 1080p on your current monitor?

You'll know exactly what the fps will be then.

Alright, I'll give it a try. But I see youtube benchmarks with the same CPU who get 240fps on 1080p. As valorant is a CPU heavy game I'm assuming the GPU doesnt play a huge role in that. SO why is it that you think going to 1080p for me will reduce the FPS?

1080p has more than twice the pixel count of 720p.

Meaning rhe gpu has to work twice as hard to render at the higher resolution.

I'm not familiar with Valorant at all but would just assume you will drop some fps Unless your current gpu usage is less than 50%.

That's just plain old mathematics and common sense.

I see, thanks. I believe my GPU usage IS under 50%. I also tried the DSR thing. In the NVIDIA control panel it said 'native' next to the res of 1024x768. So in the DSR i change it to 2.25x native. Then I did an fps check and my fps was exactly the same as with DSR being off. What does that exactly mean?

In the dsr settings enable all the setting upto 4 x.

This will allow you to select higher resolution in the games graphics settings - that's what you need to do to force a dsr resolution.

Setting my resolution to 1920x1080 in a custom game compared to 1280x720 my max fps dropped about 3.9% from 645 to 620. My GPU usage peaked at about 21%. I guess its normal to assume this will be my FPS drop when I use a 1920x1080 monitor.
