Does upgrading GPU increase cpu temperature?

I want to upgrade my gpu from the radeon hd 6570 to the r9 280 and I have an i7 2600 (3.4 ghz) processor.
Will my old heat sink be enough to cool the cpu?
Do i need additional fans or anything to prevent overheating?

The model of my pc is aspire m3970 in case you need to know. Thanks in advance!

getting a stronger gpu does not cause your cpu to get hotter .. the gpu simply makes the pc handle more load and delivers better performance .. the stock heatsink is generally enough unless you plan to overclock a cpu ..

the stock heatsink for something like the i7 2600 will be fine unless you're planning to overclock...which i would guess your motherboard isnt capable of. you COULD get an extra 400mhz out of yours, but to be honest, wouldnt make all that much of a difference. though if it were me i might add a couple fans to the case, because the r9 280 will generate quite a bit more dissipating heat that an hd 6570.

BTW do you have a strong enough psu for that card ?

Thanks for replying. What about the gpu variants like the xfx and saphire that have their own custom cooling. Are those effective?

Thanks for the reply! No I do not sadly. I have a 300 W power supply. Any good ones that you recommend? Websites say 500 Watts is enough, some people say get 600 W PSU to be on the safe side? What do you think?

R9 280 requires a minimum of a good 550 watt PSU with 25+ amps or more.

any card with a custom cooler on it will not let you down for the most part. xfx makes some really nice looking r9 280 cards. the sleekest and best looking in my opinion. asus is generally one of, if not the most respected brands for motherboards and graphics cards. i owned a sapphire hd 7950 (exact same thing as r9 280) and it was amazingly quiet and ran very cool.
