this is a quote that i seen in a different forum and i was wondering if it was true

4) Do you use Vista or XP ... if you use Vista then get 4GB of RAM,... XP doesn't recognize 4GB.

i have never heard of that but if it is true id like to know since im gonna be building a new pc using xp next week and i was planning on using 4g memory.

I put 4 GB of RAM in my system without knowing this. It recognizes 2.75 GB of the 4 GB, but that is because my video card takes up an additional 768 MB. I was told with Physical Address Extension (PAE) enabled that 32-bit XP will recognize up to 3.25 GB of total RAM. 64-bit XP will recognize a lot more, but not sure how much.

wow that is a trip i never this. i have 3g in my old system with a 8600gt 512 it detected that ok. im glad i never went higher.
windows vista 64bit does that have limits also?

Best reason I know for having 4G on xp32 is the lack of page file swapping...makes my system faster than it would be otherwise.

Sure, I lose the ram space my 8800gts uses...but it doesn't page to the hard drive (as in, it pages to the drive, but only when ripping 2 dvds while streaming audio while playing my mmorpg while the browsers up and running), most days the page file isn't touched.
