yea, and when little kids/tech retarded people start touching your computer and give it a nice shock, see how you like it now. i prefer the protection of a steel box, thank you.

running open air like this is the stupidest thing you can do. all the cooling mechanisms for passively cooled cards which are fast becoming more and more popular with people wanting fast but quiet do rely on the negative pressure inside a case to keep air moving and flowing over them doesn't work so well when there are no case walls focusing and containing the air current so it's directed to do actual cooling rather than simply move around nonchalantly. sure I've ran my computer with the side off a few times when I was testing new parts or something like that but I at least had a floor fan pointed at it directed airflow. This to me seems like a waste of money and a poor design for anybody that actually cares about anything more than looks in their PC

I am not a particular hi-tech person, but I do have a concern about health, on top of what other things you guys already pointed out. You open up the case and let it be like that. You become exposed to all these electromagnetic fields (EMF). No, that cannot be a good thing, specially when modern computers are running in the gigahertz territory. I kind of wish Tom's would do a story on that and see how big (or small) the issue really is.

I've used open air rigs for years. Actually, there is less dust because there is little vacuum effect. If you still fear dust, blow a single case fan over the top. It's really not as big of a deal as most of you apparently believe it is.

[citation][nom]jojesa[/nom]"Don't Buy a PC Case, Go Open Air!"I hope you don't have any kids, besides all other things that could happen in an open case (drop water, drinks, dust, something could fall into the fan, etc).I thinks is a good thing for someone alone or a PC tech.[/citation]

Could just mount it on the ceiling... That is unless your kids have stilts, are 6ft or taller or have a ladder.

As soon as you close the case the temperatures of the CPU, chipset and mobo sensors go down by at least 10 degrees. Open is not a very smart way to go.

Not sure what crack some of these people are on to think that a Closed case would get "as-much" dust on it as an open air. My current setup I have 1 intake in the front and the rest of the intakes Going out with a filter on the front in all my years building computers my Closed cases have never gotten "dust" settling on the Components. Besides Antec has had an open air case for some time now called the skeleton. http://www.antec.com/Believe_it/product.php?id=NzA0

doesn't a clear plastic case both show off your stuff AND prevent dust?
