Computer Specs:

CPU: Intel Core i5 4460 @ 3.20GHz, Haswell 22nm Technology

Graphics: Graphics SAMSUNG (1920x1080@60Hz), Intel HD Graphics 4600 (MSI)

Storage: 111GB Samsung SSD 840 EVO 120GB (SSD)

Optical Drives: TSSTcorp CDDVDW SH-224FB

Motherboard: MSI H81M-P33 (MS-7817) (SOCKET 0)

RAM: 8.00GB Single-Channel DDR3 @ 800MHz (11-11-11-28)

Operating System: Windows 10 Home 64-bit

Basically my computer started freezing ever since i updated league of legends one day it just froze as soon as i entered the game. There artifacts and it makes a loud buzzing sound. The fans are really noisy pretty much as soon as i turn on the PC. Now it freezes for basic tasks but much more easily on HD videos etc. My CPU also skyrockets to 100% for really basic tasks and I'm not sure why. If i buy a graphics card will this solve the problem? Or is it a bigger issue than just that now.

It should help. Your CPU seems to be having trouble running the game and processing the graphics which is giving you the 100% usage. If LOL is the only thing you play you could easily get by with a GTX 1050 or GTX 1050Ti The other issue is that Integrated graphics also uses your RAM as video memory which is probably causing some the issues as well. A dedicated video card has it's on VRAM so that'll remove that constraint as well.

Thanks for your help, appreciate it. I just thought having 8GB RAM would be enough and the fact that its been working all the way up until now has me confused.

Its an i5 4460 at a guess ??

Cpu usage 100% at basic tasks & freezing /artifacting under GPU load would point me to temperature issues personally.
If its throttling down due to being too hot it raises the shown CPU usage .

Check your temps under load .

i thought it was an i3 .. assumed it was a dual core because of the 7.14ghz rating crap .

Cant think of an i3 haswell with a 3.2ghz base clock??

Theres the pentium g3258 but I dont think that has hd4600 igp.

As you said though we need more specs really.

i was just thinking more about the 7.14ghz rating.. usually the rating is based upon doubling the core clock speed.. or at least i thought 😛 plus the OP seems like this was a budget decision build . i base my assumption on nothing but whispers in the wind though haha would not be the first time i have been wrong .. might be the first time i'd have to admit it though 😛 :ouch:

Sorry for the really delayed response but yeah it might be that because the fans have become really noisy recently and you are correct that its an intel i5 4460.

Sorry for the late reponse I'll do this now and take a look and report back

I checked the temps and they seem perfectly fine on msi afterburner. They're all around 40 although my fans appear quite loud. Here's some more specs -

CPU: Intel Core i5 4460 @ 3.20GHz, Haswell 22nm Technology

Graphics: Graphics SAMSUNG (1920x1080@60Hz), Intel HD Graphics 4600 (MSI)

Operating System: Windows 10 Home 64-bit

I tested it on standard and core max temp it got to was like 70degrees and it said my CPU is stable. Am i looking for anything else on the hwinfo app, i'm surprised my pc didn't freeze tbh. Also btw I did a graphics stress test with geek smth and used furmark and on each of these my computer freezes each time as soon as they start the program starts, then i have to restart with power button or sometimes it'll restart on its own.

Done this, as soon as i open it my whole PC freezes within 3 seconds of seeing the red hole thingy. Then I have to restart using power button. Don't have time to check temps cuz it freezes quick. Happened 3 times in a row.

Then plainly its igp related (which we did already know sort of).
CPU temps are fine under a general 100% load then (70c is what I'd expect with a stock cooler)

Its possible doe the igp to fail & the chip remain running for CPU related tasks .
Its something I've only seen however twice in 6 or 7 years.
As you say , not being able to see temps under any kind of load is an issue.
The other issue is its possible to be ram related .

Leave with me mate , I'll try & have a think about a few more tests to run.

In the meantime download cpu-z

http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/cpu-z.html

Install, run
Open the SPD tab
Look at the jedec tables
What voltage b does it show (bottom row)/for column jedec with frequency at 800mhz?

In hwinfo what is it showing for dram voltage ??

well done btw on deducing which cpu the OP had :) i was wrong :O damn assumptions haha.

has the op tried to run in safe mode ? i haven't read the whole thread as i have just gotten in.
or been able to enter bios without freezing ?

I did a RAM stress test using most of my RAM and it didn't cause my pc to freeze, it said it was stable etc.. so i think it's highly unlikely to be RAM although i could check again maybe i've missed something.

NCjz1 - just check the voltages in cpu-z SPD tab for 800mhz mate against what it shows in hwinfo.

I've seen 1.35v ram running at 1.2v & working fine under normal use, passing 10 hour memtest benching , then failing when its hit with heavy stress for shared GPU memory usage.

Upping it to the 1.35v it was specced at , it then did everything absolutely fine including quicksync encoding & heavy 3d stuff.
