Drive Initialization issue

Hello,

I am working on a Gateway FX 6850. I am trying to install a 1tb HDD. I have the drive hooked up properly as it is recognized in the bios menu and the device manager menu. However, when I go to the Disk Management section of Windows, the HDD (Disk 1) is not showing up.

How can I get this drive to show, be initialized and ultimately be usable by the system?

I have tried updating the SATA drivers from the gateway website but that didn't help. I have also looked for a bios update but cannot find one. I have tried switching the cables between the 2 drives. That didn't help.

On the motherboard, there are 2 blue SATA ports that the drives are plugged into and 4 Black SATA ports that other parts of the rig are plugged into. I haven't tried switching any of the cables around to try that. Would that work? What's the difference between the two colors?

Thank you for your support.
