[citation][nom]stingstang[/nom]Direct2drive.com has the same games as steam. Sure, they're not discounted as much sometimes, but that's walmart...I mean Steam for ya.So ah...anyone else not surprised that a 3 -cough- 5 -cough- 7 year old game requires such minimal hardware to play? I'm positive it will be good, but you know there are going to be people complaining that it doesn't have cutting-edge graphics...which we all KNOW makes the game more than the gameplay.[/citation]

D2D doesn't have any VALVe games. So it doesn't quite have EVERY game Steam has and also some indie titles are Steam only.

Plus, Steam manages the games and has in game communication built in. Of course you don't need to have Steam running for most non-VALVe titles, not sure on DN Forever but Batman AA or others like it will run without Steam running.

As for the game itself, the graphics look good and I am glad it doesn't take a uber system to run. I guess we didn't learn from Crysis.

This just means Duke for the masses.

It's either gonna look like crap or it's gonna look great because of the tight coding the programmers did. Nevertheless, it's good to see Duke Nukem back in action.

[citation][nom]NuclearShadow[/nom]Those are quite low required specs even for the recommended. What engine is the game running on?*edit* Wow Stardude posted the answer literally as I was typing this! ESP FTW![/citation]

it's runign on a modified Unreal engine , basically it is the edquivilant of UT3's engine but modified. you people act as though you expected it to run on some mosnterous new engine , sh-- 3d realms has been saying since 2000 they are going with UT. but that should have told you the spec on it were gonna be low , the beautiful think about UT engine games is they can always look gorgeous for the time and stil be very light handed to your hardware. best thing about the company epic is that they are damn good at making a great engine.

cant barely wait another day to play this

see my previous post dude , most liekly it is gona look sweet , beacuse UT engine is good at that , (looking good but not over taxing the hardware)

[citation][nom]internetlad[/nom]steam>windows livebut i can see how this will tick some people off, Steam is really becoming a juggernaut, with the likes of Civ V and Duke coming third party to steam exclusively. I'm a Steam fanboy, but if I wasn't I'd probably be annoyed.[/citation]

Problem is large retailers like game, HMV and even amazon have had ample time to see how it works and the fact it works well. Why they have failed to jump on the boat with their own client or even able to buy from them view your purchase through steam. I love the convenience of steam, just download and away you go but I can often get games cheaper else where. Its a case of do I want to shop around vs convenience. with steam hitting PS3 hopefully it'll only be a matter of time before all games are playable cross all platforms. Only problem is, with multiple clients things can get messy. the best idea is stores selling game codes redeemable on steam only cash goes to the store. The unfortunate thing is steam prides itself on giving back to developers so this would lead to a price war and its those developers who will get squeezed every time.

[citation][nom]buzznut[/nom]Duke Nukem Forever will invade North America on June 14, 2011 for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Windows PC.And that's why the specs are so low..[/citation]
again another peroson taht thinks they know what thier talking about . no the specs are not low becasue of teh consoles teh specs are low again cos DNK was built by 3d realms mostly on Ut engine 2.5 (heavy modified to suport newer graphic features)

when gear box took up the project to help 3dr get it finished (cos 3dr went bankrupt) all tehy did was finish bug squashing and then work on ports to 360 adn ps3 3d realms them selves had NO intention of realsing the game on consoles , but sicne the UT engine is so freindly with consoles gear box figured why not. why don't you do some research on stuff before you open your mouth to fart?

[citation][nom]MISRy[/nom]Shh! Don't tell the wife. I *had* to get a 5770 so I would be able to play Duke.[/citation]

Don't tell mine either. She perfectly understoo that I just had to buy a 6970 to play Duke and Crysis 2. Oh well...

[citation][nom]Enzo Matrix[/nom]Huh? These are in line with modern specs. The recommended for duke are identical to the minimum for crysis 2. Which, BTW, are the same as the recommended for crysis 1. Heck, the minimum for duke is more than for Black ops or BFBC2. I don't understand why everyone is saying these requirements are low.Article: I'd consider these recommended requirements to be "second level". The highest recommended I have seen is a radeon 4870/GTX260 and that's Metro 2033, one of the most intensive games on the market. Other games I have seen have recommended this 3850 as recommended. Most modern games still have lower cards for their "recommended" though.[/citation]

The recommended specs are identical to a computer I built 5 years ago, that's why.

I can only hope the new game has some unforgettable quotes like the original. That is just one of the elements that made the game good back in the day.
"Come get some!"
"Shake it, baby!"
"Hail to the king, baby!"
"I'll rip your head off and shit down your neck."
"It's time to kick ass and chew bubblegum... And I'm all out of gum."
"I like a good cigar...and a bad woman..."

I hosted a website with a download for "Duke Nukems Penthouse Paradise". It was a level for Duke Nukem that was originally created by Penthouse. Penthouse had it on there website for a VERY limited amount of time. (About 1 or 2 days) after that my website got over 200,000 hits from people downloading in a VERY short period of time. There were so many downloads that my ISP had to stop people from downloading it and sent me a letter reguarding the matter. LOL

Several months later you could find that level available on just about any Warez website.

LOL! Dude im trying to squeeze two 460's out of it :)

So basically what you are saying is that every modern game's recommended specs are way too low? Metro 2033 recommends a GTX260. I could have built that 3-4 years ago. Jeez, Metro 2033 graphics must suck then.
