This is the drive I have. As I mentioned, it's not working (it'll open and close, but anything I put in it won't play or install, or even show up), and it doesn't show up under Device Manager or My Computer or Devices and Printers. I've tried editing the registry listed on this page and also added the registry subkey. I've checked to be sure it's plugged in, and it is. I'm at my wit's end here and it's driving me insane. Any help at all would be greatly appreciated.

If the opens and closes, it is power correctly, now just got to check if its connected correctly
As far as BIOS is concerned, hit DEL at boot up, the ASRock logo screen, it should get you into the UEFI setup screen. Under Advance and Storage, you should see which SATA ports are active and what devices are connect.

If its not detecting the drive, either it a bad drive or cable.
This is a SATA (internal) correct and not a USB one.
does it show up in BIOS. Maybe its disabled there. Its possible that the port or the controller may be disabled.
Does the drive work, ie the eject button works? Assuming that its powered, check the ports that its connected to and check out the settings in BIOS.

It does indeed work in the sense that it opens and closes when I press the open/close button. The light comes on and everything.

I tried looking in BIOS but I'm not quite sure where it'd be. I have this motherboard and I've never looked at the BIOS since I've set my computer up. Any idea where it'd list the optical drive if it was working?

Yeah, I installed Daemon Tools.

Ran it and it couldn't find any drives.

There's no entry for a DVD drive there now, it just goes from "Display Adapters" to "Human Interface Devices".
