DVD drive not responding - Green light always on?

Hi

Just got my PC built from a friends company and Ive run into an issue, that neither of us can figure out. I have a DVD/CD Drive that is plugged in with SATA correctly, except it does not respond to anything, no button presses at all. It worked when I first powered up but now it is just dead. I CAN see a green light that is permanantly on, (before it was always off), but when i try and open it, it doesnt respond. I have tried the paperclip thing with no luck.

Another thing, when I go into Device Manager it is there and working correctly, I even uninstalled and installed it, but when I go into my computer there is no sign of the drive whatsoever. Jsut my C drive.

Any help? Its really annoying me.

Sounds like the drive is toast to me.

if a hard reboot of your computer does fixit (drives often get locked in windows are an error) then its probably dead

Despite the green light being on? The paperclip thing does unlock the drive and let it come out manually, but other than that no button presses work. Ive uninstalled, restarted, re-placed cables and its still just showing no signs of responding. Just has the green light on permanantly.

Hi; did you ever resolve this? my dvd rom activity light stays on as well and does not eject or close...on it's own. grrrr
