DVD trouble

Hy ...
I recently bought this new DVDROM ... a samsung SD-608.

I got a problem with loading simple data DVD's on my PC ...
When i insert a DVD into the player it's led starts blinking at a constant rate ... on ... off ... on ... off ... on ... off ...
Also the red led of my Harddisk is lighted when it tries to read the DVD at insertion.

Explorer freezes when i try to open "my computer" or browse the DVD.
When i listen to my DVDROM it seems like it's constantly trying to spin the disk but then all of a sudden it stops and then it tries to spin it again, etc.
DVDmovies alse are a problem. The same problem as with DataDVD's ... it tries to load but doesn't succeed.

I installed the latest firmware (1.4) and i'm running Win98SE.

Do any of you hardware peeps know what might cause this problem?

Any support is appreciated.

BTW: The possibility that its broke seems unlikely cuz i already returned my old DVD cuz i had the same problems with it ... now i got the new one and the problem persists.

You can try enabling or disabling dma for your drive. Some drives don't run right when it is enabled, and some don't run right with it disabled. Just try messing with this setting.
