Hi. I have an older dish DVR. I just canceled my dish service. DVRs can store a lot of movies and tv shows so their storage size must be pretty big. I am short on cash and I don't have much computers skills but is there any way I can use my old DVR as extra storage for my computer via USB. Maybe if I wipe the dish software and install some other sort...
Thanks for the help, Liam

You can remove the HDD and install it into a PC or external USB Enclosure and then initialize/format it for use.
You have to format it because whatever is on it is encrypted by DISH and can't be read. I don't think even another dish can read it.

The actual process of Hacking your Dish would not be a discussion for these forums. It isn't allowed here.
We would tolerate the discussion of the suitability of the hardware to run something else, just not the actual hacking process.

This thread will be closed. If you wish to pursue the hardware aspect then please post a new thread in the Consumer Electronics section.

Thank you.
