So i recently noticed, in the past 3 days, that i am having lag spikes when playing this game, especially when turning around with character, and not only in this, others too, BF4, COD:AW, etc. What can the problem be? My cpu, my gpu, my RAM? Any fixes?
My specs:
Win 7, 64 bit
I3 2100 3.1 GHz
GTX 660 ti 2 GB
8 GB RAM

Solution
You are playing games like bf4 which rely heavily on cpu gpu as well as dying light. Your cpu isn't all that great for gaming and your gpu is 2 gens old and wasn't top of the line 2 gens ago either. For newer games like these with the issues you are having I blame it on your CPU. Check cpu usage vs gpu usage while playing these games. I bet you CPU is at max pretty much the while time while your gpu is around 80% depending on what settings you are running at the time. You could probably squeeze by with your gpu for a bit longer but that CPU I believe is going to be your issue.
Probably the 2GB VRAM on your GPU holding you back, esp if you're trying to run max textures. Set the draw distance to 0 and try setting shadows and foliage to med. If that doesn't work you may have to set textures to med as well.

I have also found that manually disabling film grain, noise and aberration via a file edit can boost FPS, and even make the game look better.

Few days ago all games were running good. I mean, i dont run the game at max, well, i'm running dying light at a mix of high and medium settings, but before, like 1 week after i start playing it, all was good. Well, with the exception when the zombies grabbed me or spitting me, the lag spikes were terrible for 10 seconds, almost freezed. Even with Avanced Warfare, i run it at high, i mean this are the optimized graphics for my PC, so all was fine, even at BF4 it make this kind of stuff, especially when something explodes, the lag spikes awakes then. Still, GW2 is pretty CPU demanding when alot of ppl are near, but there are no problems, only lags cuz it's obvious you get some lags when ~100 ppl are near you, but it's normal. I'm concerned if i really have to change my CPU/GPU...i mean, my CPU is like 2 years and 4 months old, while my GPU is like 1 year and half old.

Is your CPU OCed? Do you have a stock or custom cooler on it? If custom, did you install it yourself?

Sometimes TIM can become less effective and need reapplying, esp ones that aren't top rated. This can be more prevalent in areas that get very hot, esp if you don't have AC.

What you're describing can be either GPU or CPU related. When you turn quickly for instance, the obscured textures behind you have to suddenly become detailed, which loads a lot of textures.

When you have lots of explosions or AI active though, that can strain the CPU.

Have you monitored the temps of your CPU and GPU?

Usually when you get a sudden decrease in performance after games were running fine before, it's either temp, malware, or even PSU related. So also make sure you do some malware scans with some good tools like Malwarebytes (free).

It wouldn't hurt to check for voltage stability on your PSU rails too.

Everything's fine with your rig - except the CPU. You're running a dual core@3.1. You should consider switching to a quad core @3.4 (minimum)

The GPU is good enough for Dying Light. It won't give you enough headroom over the recommended requirements, but will be sufficient for max settings.

I'm running Dying Light with my current specs at max (without any lag). I get constant 40-50fps, and that's with an older (albeit OC'd) CPU. I had lag issues when my CPU was running stick !2.8. Ever since I OC'd it, no issues so far.

I know dying light is not that optimised. I've seen it even at PC's with i7 and gtx 970/980.
As for my CPU, it's not OC, same with my GPU. my RAM's are around 80-90% when playing games. Still, atm i'm focused on something else to upgrade, so no extra for a new CPU, since the CPU i want is around 400$ in my country....QQ. Still, i'll just close torrent and torture myself with lower settings till then.
