Dyson Bladeless Fan Still Really Blows

Blade Trilogy? Only the first two are worth watching over and over again. The 3rd one... ugh?

$300 for a fan? I'm actually quite happy with my $30 fan... even has a remote and can vary its "wind speed".

Oh, from the company that brings us $500~800 vacuum cleaners.

If Dyson wants to break some amazing tech to the people... invent the noiseless vibrator. People will pay $500 for that.
 
I don't really see how this could improve computer cooling.
Think about it... the base (look at it!! ) It's pretty big, and if it uses fans inside the base, well why not just use a regular fan in the computer. No advantage, except that it's cool looking. But at least it's expensive and un-needed.
 
For anyone that wants to see real bladeless fans, just do a search for "Ion Fans". They are also a hell of alot cheaper than this eyesore.
 
Heh, I wonder how they can get away with saying "blade-less".

I think the main factor will be the noise level from the "blade-less" intake.
 
using air movement like that is nothing new.. Just look at a toaster, which sucks cold air on the bottom, and on the top has hot air coming out...

Now the question is if it works with heat, or if it uses another technology.
If you want a successful cooling using hot surfaces to make airflow, you'd never even reach the capacity of a fan at that size.
Or if you would, you might send a lot more energy into it to get that airflow, than with a fan.
 
in dyson's defense:

patent infringement has been notoriously difficult for dyson--even when his products are drastically different and proven to have been invented earlier than upstart competitors.

his products have always been somewhat expensive compared to the competition. i chalk that up to how his company nearly went bankrupt defending their vacuum patent against hoover. the assault on dyson's pioneering and propritary designs have continued recently. i've even seen ads on tv for new vacuums which are hopeless ripoffs of dyson technology.

until and unless the united states (let alone united kingdom) patent system starts taking a stand for "the little guy", i expect him to charge a premium. it's the only way he can survive to pay court fees.

scoff if you will...but if he is not allowed to keep the rights to his own developments--you may as well condone microsoft's treatment of wes cherry; and continue praying that wal-mart puts every mom & pop store out of business.

In the product "reaction" video on the website, there are several ladies with long hair looking at the (working?) product. Not a hair on their head is moving, even though a couple get really close to the "ramp". Uh, how much "amplification" is going on here? A box fan of the same diameter would be giving them a definite windblown look. ???

I noticed that too. It sure is making noise but I didn't see a single hair move. Must be from the lack of "unpleasant buffeting".
 
Amazing how Mr. Dyson pushes technology to the extreme to develop products in no manner more efficient which is to say "better" than the products he seeks to replace!

Factually Dyson vacuums are often beaten by vacuums many times less expensive.
 
But can it run Crysis? 😛

Seriously though, I find that Dyson makes some cool stuff but like Apple's products it's just not worth the premium you pay.
 
You don't need blades to pump air...if it would use a Tesla Pump it would truly be a "bladeless fan" and probably much more efficient and quiet...but then again, Nikola Tesla's inventions (not including some pertaining to electricity) never seemed to catch on...REALLY Unfortunate...
 
i brought the dyson 12" fan hoping it will blow better then my conventional fan... i dont know whether i set it up the wrong way (which is not hard btw all u have to do is aline the arrows and here that little *click*) or if there is more i have to do to get it working properly but this dyson fan truly sucks dont believe the hype because my old fan (which was 32$) blows better and makes the same amount of noise this little 12" table fan is doing... i dont know why its being portrayed as air blowing through the middle as well because the 12" dyson fan in which i brought is only blowing air from the outer ring there is no air being sucked from the back multiplying anything biggest waste of money ever spent on an item.. soooooo glad i kept the receipt
 
Poor market judgement. Dyson missed the demographics completely.

People who can afford a $300 fan have air conditioned houses, and thus no need for fans.

People who need to buy fans cannot afford or choose not to pay for air conditioning, and thus can not or will not buy a $300 fan.

Any cylindrical blade fan creates a magical uninterrupted stream of air. What I can see in this ring design is that, since it relies on laminar flow, putting it next to a wall or furniture might reduce its performance.
