I have tried over clocking this cpu by using asus ez overclock is the bios and setting at 20% it reached windows once and froze, now it won't even post on those settings, I have to clear the cmos to get back to the bios.

I have upgraded to the latest bios and this dosen't help either!!!

Tried raising FSB slightly but still dies on me!

HELP!!!

I think it's possible your memory is "wronge" and doesn't want to up the FSB without more voltage or loosen the timings, what memory is it? If it's some cheap no-name stuff then you may be heading up doo-doo creak

Its VDATA and I think the latency is 5/5/5/13 surely this will overclock slightly!!! but i can't even do that

Your lats are not the problem. That memory just can't go much further past 800mhz. If you are using some automatic overclocking feature, stop using it now and manually set your overclock. The setting that I recommend for everyone with a 6600 is as follows: 400 base fsb (1600 qdr fsb), 1:1 memory ratio, and cpu multiplier at x8 to get a final clock of 3.2ghz. You may need to bump the cpu voltage to get stable, but these setting have worked on many 6600 systems. When I say bump the voltage I mean the smallest amount possible, usually .025v. Most 6600 can go higher than this, but for people who are just getting into overclocking these settings work great.

Getting it at 1:1through proper bios should work as you arent pushing your ram too hard. Make sure the bios gives you ram options as otherwise o/c might not work. My mobo was useless at recognising my ram until i upgraded the bios, but i see youve done that already. Otherwise il just say not everything will work 100% together and maybe you are unlucky.
