e8400 upgrade to x5470 worth it?

I have to upgrade my processor in order to play star wars battlefront.
Do you think upgrading to x5470 will be worth it?I can buy one used for around 80 dollars.
Will there be any bottleneck and if there is will it destroy the performance of the game?

An x5470 is a LGA 771 socket cpu while your current e8400 is LGA 775 so wouldn't be a drop in replacement for you.

Definitely worth it if you don't want to fork out the cash for a new build.

Just do your research on how to convert a 771 chip to fit a 775 socket.

You will need to jump through some hoops however:
Research your motherboard to make sure it has bios support for both 771 and 775
Update to latest bios.
I actually had to get a modified bios from bios-mods.com for my optiplex 380
Get a pin swap sticker on ebay for like $1.50
modify (aka remove) the idiot proofing plastic tabs in your motherboards socket to allow the 771 chip to physically rest on the pins.
Take extra care with your thermal paste application as the xeon is going to run hotter.

Anyway, in my case it was very much worth it... just know that there are risks and do your research... other than that, it's a fun project too!
