E8600 (b)eater

Hello mates,

im planning to upgrade my currently sistem.

E6750
DFI DK p45
2*2gb ocz felx 1200mhz

i was thinking about an e8600, os i can get it for my e6750+30 bucks, but then i red days and nights and saw those guys unlocked their athlons to phenome, the unlocked cores, cash memories...

So i have a simply question - is it ok to uppgrade for a e8600, or its better to choose som AMD, if yes, which one? My e6750 OCed, it runs on 3,3ghz, cos i havent got success and dont know how to + the nb voltage and similars in the bios...I didnt even used my ocz`s on 1200 :*(

Because of that i was yhinking about e8600, if there is no procesors which can beat it i wont change my configuration.

ps: i dont want to upgrade for i series, cos i always buy/change used stuff to save money. But i think if i change to an AMd setup i will have to buy new proc, mobo etc.

e8600 is a waste of cash these days you shouldn look higher then an e8400

the e7500 is a good balance between performance and budget


for the $285 an e8600 costs get a new amd cpu and board
amd 620 $100
4gb ddr3 $100
good am3 770 board bout $85

E8200 is great you can find OEM ones new on ebay for around $80 to $90 and will overclock to 3.8ghz no problem and can go even higher.

i cant buy from ebay...and if u carefully red my post, i said that i wont buy new e8600, my friend has a lapped e8600, on 1,25 works on 4, on 1.35v runs at 4,5ghz. I can get this e8600 for my e6750+30$.

because of this i asked, is there any procesors tat can beat the e8600...

cos i sold my e6750 for 80$, so, for me its almost equal for what to spend my money....is there any unlockable procesor which will be much better than e8600?

Go for it!

I agree, definately go for it, you can overclock this CPU to 4.0 GHz easily.

I would figure, that by the time you decide you need a better CPU than the 8600, you will most certainly have to change the platform from LGA775 to something else like AM3 or 1156/1366. In this case, you'll likely need a new motherboard/RAM/CPU. It all depends on what you're willing to spend and what the computer will be used for...

I would say that the 8600 should last you another year or so, depending on what you use t for...

well the athlon2 425 cacyc i think is fully unlockable and it supports ddr3. i will se. If i sell my dfi board i will change platform. A litle off, but not so big. How i know, the Intel procesors can ganhdle ddr2 and ddr3 - it depends on the mobo`s chipset.

the AMD can handle at the same time ddr2 and ddr3, cos its memory controler is in the procesor. This means if i sell my dfi board too, and i buy an AMD proc+mobo, i should keep my ddr2 ram?

keep what you have for now, it'll be fine for what you're doing, then when you decide to go with a new platform, go DDR3 & quad core at least...

you'll find that overclocking an E8600 (especially with a P45 motherboard and the RAM you have) is rather easy if you follow the instructions in the link below...
