there realy is no point to commenting on this .... this is going to be a vrey dark year for the platform that i love .... and this will be the year these companies refer to when they give their reasons why they no longer support the pc platform ....

"we made games for this platform and then suffered a huge loss because for SOME reason we had a much higher than normal piracy rate .... "

sad .... so sad

And here I was assuming EA actually learned something. How silly of me.
Are they testing us for cloud computing? Because you know these di$% holes would LOVE cloud computing to death right...

I wish EA has squat to do with the battlefield series, because...cannot...resist...good....fps

Oh, I hate this!

All I can say is thanks pirates! You've made all of our lives quite painful. I wish the ramifications of your actions only affected you.

You're jumping to a conclusion that allows you to happily make a mountain out of a molehill on this one.
If, as I suspect, you will have the choice of EITHER using the original disk to authenticate OR logging in once at the beginning of play using the Internet, then this is no big deal, at worst an inconvenience while traveling.
If you must have something to stew about, even if you use the disk, the program probably logs your playing time, and reports it back when you log in. Even that I don't care about, as long as I don't get "targeted ads" because of it.

I have the game, I love C&C....but here are the facts.

The installation as the article states is correct. There IS DRM as it DOES require an internet connection to be constant and stable. Between each skirmish of the campaign it checks for the connection. If the connection fails it boots you back to the login screen where you are prompted to log in again. You connection can only be interrupted during a mission but it must be stable once the mission is over before it proceeds to the next. THIS SUCKS, as I too travel and like to play offline skirmishes as well. EA...you have just ensured this will be pirated, and for the sake of my offline gameplay, I hope it happens soon.

In reference to jtt283, I am also playing with the DVD in the drive and this does NOT bypass the requirement for an internet connection. The internet connection is required regardless of whether you have the DVD inserted or not.

Damn and I thought EA had learned it's lesson since Mass Effect 2 and Dragon Age were done about right. That may be a due to purchase contract with Bioware since both those games came from them. Damn you EA, no C&C will see my rig.

Okay EASUKS I can see ppl buying this lame game and then returning it because mom thot all computers had internet and can't figure out why their 12 year old says it won't work. After taking it back 3 times thinking it was the disk mom just wants her money back, screwwww the game. Middle guys looses money, mom and kid decides it's easier to just watch a movie instead. EASUKS in the beginning and EA still SUKS!

All aboard the failboat EA and other game developers and watch your so called bottom line shrink faster than the fortunes of a gamboling addict. Your greed and haughty confidence will only destroy you and be an example for others to not make the same mistake. If you made quality games that were worth the price charged people wouldn't pirate but would gladly pay the price.

[citation][nom]maigo[/nom]Once they crack this new wave of DRM we'll have 2-3 years before they figure out it doesn't work. Next it'll be encrypted thumb drives that you play the game off of[/citation]

You have hit the nail on the head, sell the game on an encrypted thumbdrive that must be in the USB port to play, No Cd, No Drm Internet crap, You can buy it, and sell it when you are done, will only play with thumbdrive, BRILLIANT!!

Well then, in that case, let me grab a shovel and I'll join you...

A game that cannot be played without an internet connection? Nevermind...

Face it if we were not living in a society that uses a fiat money system we would not have to pay game Programmers and Game designers hundreds and hundreds of thousands of dollars and the cost of games could be normalized.

Think about it a brand new game is about 80 or more bucks that is the cost of a mother board or a stick of RAM

In a true capitalist society there is constant deflation, things get cheaper, any one can open a business (because it is cheap), and competition drives quality very high

I can honestly say this will have no effect on my purchase of C&C4. I already expected something like this when I saw how forced multiplayer was in C&C3...was kinda expecting an MMO... and hated it so much that I decided EA is just killing the WestWood franchise and their is no point in me trying to get any more of the games that were part of my favorite game series ever (I still play Generals:Zero Hour about 4 or 5 times a week).
As for the DRM...if you make me activate online and even reactivate occasionally when I'm online that would be OK. But, sometimes when my internet is down (thanks Comcast) I like to...say...play a video game. Hmmm, doesn't work and it isn't even an online game...well, that's just stupid, now isn't it.

I still play Blade Runner (PC 1997) if that means any thing, good games don't need DRM period only snuff games and movies need protection. Such actions are never that of the free market but that of a controlled market or monopoly.

Hehe, thats EA Games.
They looked at the news ubisoft created with their retarded DRM and said: A good way to lose customers, lets go for it.

I would love to have bought this game (I've played all of the previous versions and its still my favorite RTS series), but not with this. My connection is actually pretty fast, but can be unreliable at times. One more way that EA is ruining the video game industry.
