EA: PS4, XBox One Are a 'Generation Ahead' of Gaming PCs

If he's referring specifically to APU's and integrated graphics, then yes the APU in both the PS4 and XBox One are probably more than a generation ahead of what's currently available for PC's. Unfortunately for Taneja there's a LOT more graphics performance available out there in the form of dGPU's, which is what the vast majority of people who game on PC use. Basically if you have something that's at or above an ~HD7850, you probably have more raw GPU compute performance than the PS4, and certainly more than the Xbox One.
 
Yeah it's going to take PC's along time to recover from this, but I'm sure there are going to be a number of Suckers who try to out perform it by buying $ 1000.00 Graphic cards and buy water cooling for Overclocking and what not. Those People just have to try, but failure is their Destiny. LOL

Isn't that because they hold stuff back on the PC releases to try and push people towards the console games? Like how they did a straight console port of Dead Space 3 and found it strange that people didn't want the same experience across all platforms, or how they're using an outmoded engine for the PC version of their sports games.
 
really ???!!!! for instance Xbox one has of 5 billion transistors , but gtx 780 alone has 7.1 billion not even counting other components such as CPU rams etc..... my rig contains intel 3930 k, GTX 680 2-way SLI , asus rampage iv extreme , 64gb g-skill 2400 mhz ..... can both consoles combined beat this rig , not to mention that there are more advanced pcs than this one .....he must be joking or something ..right
 
This may be true, but it doesn't matter anyways. Within a year or two, the consoles will go without an update and PC's will be two generations ahead in terms of components.

And to think this company is buying up all the good PC game designers - I wonder if they will get socially engineered to focus on console over PC and ruin the gaming industry. I really want EA to just stop existing as soon as possible, I hate that company with a fiery passion.
 


Yup. If he'd couched it as a general statement -- "new consoles are ahead of the average gaming PC" -- then I'd even agree with him. You gotta figure that most people are running on the low end of the hardware spectrum, after all. And the new tech in PS4/XBOX1 is quite impressive.

And the hardware in the new consoles will likely be very cost-effective from the consumer's point of view -- equal to, or possibly even better than, what any system builder can cram into a DIY gaming rig at a similar price point.

On the eve of a new console release, console gamers have reason to be excited. But EA has to take it about twelve steps too far, by claiming that the new consoles are better than even "extravagant PCs." Leaving aside for a moment that the statement is inaccurate, it bespeaks a wantonly dishonest, marketing-trumps-all, insult-customers'-intelligence attitude that's frankly repellant.

EA's statement is akin to claiming that Sony and Microsoft will sell the public a ~$2000 machine for one quarter of its value. No one in his right mind would believe that claim; just at face value it's totally absurd, bordering on fraud. But by phrasing the claim in vague terms, EA can imply that impossible value proposition without actually saying it.
 
Ok the PS4 uses DDR5, and the One uses DDR3. While both have 8GB memory it would seem the PS4 has an advantage over the One but to say they are both 5 years ahead of the best gaming PC doesn't fit - they both use lower end graphics cards than what is available to PC gamers. The consoles may both be a lot better than current gen consoles but they DO NOT trump a gaming PC.
 
From what Ive read, The architecture AMD has developed is pretty damn awesome. But I would not call the Next Gen Systems ahead of Current Gaming PCs.
EA needs to keep their noses out of everything.

Lol. They're just trying to make sure you buy the more expensive console games. Yes, in many ways consoles are ahead. But I think because it helps shift down development costs and the architecture is different. But gaming PCs are typically built for now instead of 7 years in the future.
 
ya that is offensive the Xbox one and PS4 if what I read is right both use teck that's 1 or 2 years old already as far as PC's go
they are a MAJOR upgrade vs the old consoles but they are FAR from being 5 years more advanced then a good uptodate PC
let see them put a PC game like Wow on one of those consoles and compare its FPS to up to date pc I would bet a simple GTX 660 or even 650 would stomp it in to the ground ..... but then consoles are setup to run 30 fps (witch is 1/2 of what I want all the time)
 
There are already benchmarks up on this "better" architecture. It performs worse than an i3 with integrated GPU. Thing is.. these things are not gaming machines anymore. (Especially the Xbox One.) They target TV... sports.. TV. Did I mention Television?
A low-mid range curren PC can easily beat them both. Now.
Welp, it's EA.
 
just moddability of PC games alone will ALWAYS put PC gaming "generation ahead" of console gaming...
no console will ever have that much creativity and effort to bring out the best in gaming by the fans for the fans...
