They also HAVE to release as early as possible as TEGRA4 will hurt their demand for it. Which sucks because it's the rushed retail release, that is eventually going to hurt them because develoeprs screwed the pooch on getting quality products out in time. The developer has what...4 months maybe 5 since the OUYA SDK (ODK) has been out. Not to mention the Unity has only supported OUYA for 2 months with NO OTHER OPTION before that.

Someone on the OUYA team needed to understand that "open source" or "Free market", they still need the tools and time to make quality products.

too bad, i've been keeing a hopeful eye on the ouya. surely by updating firmware/software/store/gui/etc some of these problems can be fixed, the rest is up to developers to code games that utilize its potential.
let's wait until august until we pass judgement on it, after all every console suffers bugs and lackluster games initially.

Can some of these rough spots be ironed out? Yeah, they can tweak the interface or speed up controller to console response or things like that. But I've always contended their basic business model doesn't make a whole lot of sense. Free and cheap games sounds nice from a buyer standpoint, but the people working on these games need to make a living. The better ones are going to go and find a company to work for where they can make the most money, and that's not likely to be the Ouya. Add to that the fact that a majority of these games are going to be available through a number of other outlets at some point, it's hard to see the justification for $100 for a console just to be able to play a bunch of these not very good games.

Considering that no one develop more Tegra 3 specific games... it will become a press-papier pretty fast !
Also, by the time they get it right (with all bugs fixed) and to sell... it will be obsolete from technical specs. pov.

They should have held out longer on trying to implement the Ouya. The Tegra 3 just doesn't seem powerful enough to win over the masses even with a $100 price point. The upside is that they have announced they're going to release a new Ouya every year with new hardware so it has a chance to really shine with the Tegra 4 and beyond.

But, I also think I may have been wanting the Ouya to flop a bit because I'm way more excited about the steambox. Valve will be selling their own $300 steambox for living rooms and the steam boxes are supposedly easy to upgrade. I'd love to play the new games coming out for linux on my big screen tv with a controller. Legends of Aethereus, Shroud of the Avatar, No Heroes, Fields of War, the upcoming source 2 engine games, and future Blizzard game releases.

Can't wait to get one and stream my pc games to it on my big screen, just like shield, only cheaper.
Its going to be my little media box too, hello HBO Go and Netflix!
