I have an ECS G33T-M2 motherboard that I've been using for years with a Core2Duo E7300 CPU. I was given an older motherboard with an E7400 CPU so I swapped that in, thinking I'd take the (slight) boost in frequency. It works fine until I shut down: the power LED and video shut off but the CPU fan keeps running. I have to hold the power button to force it to shut down the rest of the way. It used to shut down properly when it had the E7300.
On ECS' website http://www.ecs.com.tw/ECSWebSite/Product/Product_Detail.aspx?CategoryID=1&DetailID=805&DetailName=Feature&MenuID=1&LanID=0 I see that the E7500 and E7600 are the only E7xxx CPUs in the support list. I'm sure I would have checked that the E7300 was supported when I got it: did it get removed for some reason? Furthermore, http://www.cpu-upgrade.com/mb-ECS/G33T-M2%28V1.0%29.html lists the E7200, E7300, E7500, and E7600 as compatible but omits the E7400. Aren't all the E7xxx CPUs just different speed bins of the same part?
I've stripped the system down to mobo/CPU/HSF/memory/PSU and still get the not-quite-off behavior. I've swapped PSUs with no improvement and the memory is what was in there when it was shutting down properly so I doubt that's it. I've tried clearing CMOS. I have the latest BIOS.
The only things I can think of to try are reflashing BIOS and swapping back to the E7300.
Has anyone used an E7400 successfully in a G33T-M2?
