emachine e442 power problem

I've got the above laptop, for some reason it will only boot on the power supply and the red charge light flashes. I've fitted a new battery and I've reset the cmos but the problem still remains. Any suggestions Please?

The new battery, is it OEM or some aftermarket one? If the latter, that could well be your problem.

Now, if that is not the case, then it is possible that the charging circuit is damaged and either needs to be repaired/replaced (if possible on that device) or the motherboard would need replacing. So I would start with the battery and making sure it is the exact one you need.
