Question Empty prompt after motherboard logo

Hi everybody,

First of all: Happy new year!

I have the following problem. I see an Asus Motherboard Logo after starting the PC. After that I get a black screen with an underscore '_' blinking in the top left corner. Nothing happens from there. Ctrl + Alt + Delete leads to a restart.

During the Motherboard Logo I can access Bios and the Boot options without a problem. Bios recognizes all my Drives (a SSD with Windows on it and a HDD only for storage). I already tried removing each pair of my RAM bars -> No effect.

I just don't have an idea what to try next. I would be happy about any idea.

Best regards!

P.S.: Sorry if I chose the wrong sub-forum. Seemed to fit the best.

Welcome to the forums, newcomer!

What OS are you working with? If you're working with Windows 8 and above, you should be seeing Windows Boot Manager listed next to your storage drive, which is what should be the primary boot device. If that's missing(and you're not on Windows 7) then the issue is that your OS might've conked out(gotten corrupt or the drive did).

Thanks for the reply!

I am using Windows 10. Still, no Windows Boot Manager.

I think I know why: I let this "empty prompt" run for a while. When I came back after ~30 min it said something like "Windows had a problem communicating with a device. If you have any flash devices attached please remove them before restarting".

I had already all devices removed. The only thing left to me was the HDD, as it is only storage. After that I did not get the prompt again, but something like "Please add a bootable device". I also switched the SSD cables with those from my HDD, hoping only the cable broke but still the same message. So I guess you were right with "your OS might've conked out .

So I assume it is the SSD that somehow broke?

My only idea is to try to reach out to a near hardware shop who could maybe run some diagnosis tools on it?
