How do I enable smart with GA-8N-SLI Rev. 1.0 with F5 BIOS? I afraid that eventhough I changed to another hard disk, the same problem (hard disk failing) will come again.

You enable it in the motherboards BIOS. It is most likely located in the BIOS under the Advanced settings.

Note: SMART does not work with drives in RAID configurations or on drives running in AHCI mode.

Well, I'd checked everywhere if there's something that mentions SMART but I only found "Enable CPU smart fan". I don't think that related directly to my hard disk.

Even so, what would've caused my SATA hard disk to not be detected even though a few months back it can?

I'm not sure about your specific mobo, but SMART is always set from the bios, because it has to be enabled before POST completes. It should be in the same section that shows SATA operation/control mode.

The hard drive wouldn't happen to be a 250GB Western Digital SATA drive would it?

I'd check that once I got a hold on that PC.

I'm using Debian Etch when that happened (hard disk gradually getting slower on accessing file). That SATA hard disk is a Samsung 80 GB.

I'm not sure about that motherboard, but when I enter my motherboard, I have to then hold control key and F1 at the same time. Then go review the BIOS settings again.
