[citation][nom]xbeater[/nom]Yeah just like the rating system has been disabled so that the SPAM comments don't instantly get rated down to -4 and dissapear!Tom's is making money off the spammers without us realizing...What other excuse is there for the broken rating system? it works in the forums, not in the news articles....[/citation]
You people are learning ;-) Why do you think 99% of news is regurgitated from Engadget and the like? The only thing exclusive from Toms is reviews...and I thank the writers for their intelligence...not the "site". Sad what this site turned into from quite a few years ago. Even their "IT Pro" section is ridiculous. I guess I hang around for some hope that it will bring back the goodness it had those years ago...

[citation][nom]ProDigit10[/nom]The bokeh effect is supposed to lever quite some gpu horsepower off the card! It's very easy for cards to display a lower resolution upscaled image (that turns out blurry) of the background~~[/citation]

You can only cheat so much... and its noticeable. Limited enviroments limits the creative process and "world" of a game.

[citation][nom]EnFoRceR22[/nom]Care to site any proof to this? Or are you one of those people that thinks that people who wouldn't buy something in the first place are hurting a companies sales by still not buying it? You could look at it this way.. 10 people buy the game because they wanted the game.. 10 people who have no intention of buying the game download it~~[/citation]

Yes and No. When I was a teen, I played lots of pirated games I would never have bought (lack of $$$ - but my computer was more expensive back then). But I did buy some games. I buy my games to support the industry. There are games I WANT to play, that I don't have nor would I spend $5 - which are EA games with SecuROM (that means all EA games AFAIK).

Mirrors Edge, Crysis, etc etc... I *could buy them*, I wont. I can get the cracked versions very very easy... which don't have SecuROM, limited installs, etc - but I don't. Guess what, DRMing games to death HURTS sales, pisses off customers and does NOTHING to stop piracy. What stops piracy? Steam or free games.

Torrents did NOTHING to hurt the game industry. Its just a form of transmitting information/data. If its not a torrent, its newsgroups, FTP, IRC, its webages, its DVD-Rs, USB flash drives, etc.

MMORPGs are hurting PC gaming quite a bit. They don't work very well for consoles... and when you have people playing the same game for days, weeks or months on end, there is no time to play anything else.

Its a combination of many things... not just one thing.

[citation][nom]kartu[/nom]It's amazing.Even more amazing is how crappy is image viewing on thg site. Is it like that on purpose, to get more clicks?[/citation]

I agree, when i right click to open an image, the full image should be displayed. Instead, this site takes me to a slide show control.

Beladro.

I agree of course if i do buy a game with drm i will download the none drm version. I was just trying to express that pirating games doesn't necessarily = hurting sales. In most cases it doesn't I do download games that i think will be good to see if they are which people will argue is still wrong. But if they are good i will defiantly buy them. A lot of things can attribute to lower sales #1 imo is the quality of games in the past 10 years. #2 DRM using pirating as an excuse. to me are two major factors. consoles to me hurt pc game sales a lot as well but its not the console fault its the devs wanting to make an easy game across all platforms leaving out DX 11 which is the biggest reason to play a PC game the higher lvl graphics.

The playing of games that you'll never buy of course is what i was talking about.. weather you play it or not doesn't really matter you weren't going to buy it in the first place. Most of the people who pirate are like that.

This is one a lot will love but pirating helps the industry as well.. Perhaps not in sales but in talent. People download adobe and other programs a lot get really good at them and might want a job using them. Funny thing is in those instances they will end up buying the product they use to pirate. Now i realize that argument only applies to so many people but word of mouth works here as well. Anyways back to my mmo which yes keeps me from playing a lot of other games i might buy so i can personally relate to that.

We want a game to play that looks like this right now, but the purpose of this tech demo isn't to show off Gears of War 4. Epic made this to tell hardware makers of what kind of targets developers will be aiming at in the next-generation.

“The whole idea behind this is to tell the hardware manufacturers that this is what you should be doing down the road,” Rein explained.

They're so full of themselves. I'm sure all three hardware makers are already aiming higher than this. And not just for a mere tech demo.

Don't think we'll be seeing new consoles anytime soon.. Microsoft said they were hoping to increase the 360's lifespan by up to 5 years with Kinect. Unfortunately Kinect was successful enough that they think it's a good idea.

Sony were going for a ten-year lifespan of the PS3 and they're well on track.

And with Sony and Microsoft sitting on their consoles at the moment, I don't think Nintendo will see the need to rush out a new console.

I don't mind if my children play games that simulate extreme senseless violence, but FFS, they shouldn't be showing them sex or smoking. They're young and impressionable, they'll start thinking that sex and smoking are OK.

[citation][nom]rohitbaran[/nom]Say as much you like about Cryengine 3 being only DirectX 9, it is still better visually than UE3 when it maxes out. As for UE3, it is going to support DirectX 11 now. Before, it was DirectX 10.[/citation]

Maxed out? it was developed for console, A calculator can be "maxed out" higher! the new unreal engine shits all over the CryBaby Engine!

ssddx

well i am a bad speller sorry.
but this game is not suppose to get out for this year. next year well c wot Nvidia got for us in store. beside it is cinema quality and 3x580 for such quality is nice. but a dual setup of nvidias next 6xx series or wot ewer they will be called wuld pobebly work well. and for me i can easily get a dual card for 800dollars worth as long as there is actual games making use of it. but for this ear ima hold on to my 295.

btw eny one ells got problems posting on toms i seem to haw some strange stuff happening.

Shadows and real time light sources in reflections FTW, and LOVE the bokeh DoF! Someone on here said they hate in-game DoF...I agree it does force you to focus on a specific depth in a sequence. I say leave it in cutscenes, and possibly use it very subtly in game; i.e. blur the closest part of your gun as that wouldn't be in focus while staring out into the world, and only blur stuff at extreme distances ahead if at all. One really cool way to work it would be to somehow track where your eyes are looking in game and actively blur the appropriate depths to simulate how our eyes focus. Of course to do this you'd need a camera on your monitor tracking eye movement...

Anyways, great steps forward with this engine! I was getting annoyed at Epic for sitting on the U3 engine for so long due to its success on consoles, but they've definitely caught my attention in a good way again!

I can only hope that in a year or two we get that performance off of a single gpu, that would make it possible for them to integrate it into the next-gen consoles. Of course if that were to happen most average pc gamers likely already would have a card that would 2x as good. Maybe the next way of consoles will have graphics card that could be upgraded. They already have hard drives that can be upgraded why not?

i wont buy anything form epic because of that smoker picture.
in fact, i will now throw out all my epic games.
i think anyone who smokes, has pictures of smokers, or talks about smoking should be incarcerated without possibility of parole.
being an ex-smoker i am now a smoker nazi.
i enjoy ranting about anything related to smoking.
i am the king of my own realm and you had better listen to me because i am smarter than you.. and your dumb honor student kid.
