Hi

I have just bought a Epson R300 printer.
The trouble is my computer will not recognise it, however on a older
machine it accepted it no problem so I know cabling and printer is
fine.
The machine I am having problems with is a AMD XP2000, with a nvidia
chipset motherboard running win98SE.
I know the usb ports are working because I have an Epson 2480 scanner
working no problem.

The error message I get in device manager is Epson MFP Composite
Device - due to hub transfer request failures port/s have been
disabled. I Delete the device and try again in another USB port
(including the scanner one) I get the same problem.

Have tried everything I can think of - can anyone help - only think I
can think of is buying a pci usb card and trying that rather then the
onboard usb ports?

Many Thanks

Richard

These are some guesses, but may be worth attempting.

1) have you tried removing the scanner drivers and loading the printer
and seeing if it will work, and then reinstalling the scanner drivers?

2) Make sure you have the most current drivers from Epson. Sometimes
problems are found and repaired in newer drivers.

3) Have you tried just reversing the positions of the USB plugs between
the scanner and printer on the computer?

Which USB bus chipset are you using? Some of the VIA sets were flaky,
and sometimes the drivers for them require updating (check with VIA if
your board uses them).

Thanks for the advice - after a long e-talk with Epson that came to no
conclusions other then they saying you need to get your PC checked
out!!!!! DOH!!! That is what I was doing. We even disabled all progs
that wasn't necessary in msconfig etc and still printer wouldn't
connect.

In the end the people I bought the motherboard from 2 years ago (CCL
computers) sent me new usb2.0 drivers - which again did nothing for me
:0(

So came to conclusion must be a win98SE not being 100% compatible with
USB2.0 and asked CCL if I disabled USB2.0 host controller, would all
2.0 devices default to 1.1 which win98SE does support properly.

They came back with Mmmmmm might be an idea - told me how to do it in
device manager and then in bios and hey presto it works!!!

Sent email to CCL and Epson in case any one else has same problem

Richard..
