Question Equalizing the volume of the recording

Is there any program to equalize the volume in mp3 recordings or a media player that adjusts the volume live, but not the entire mp3 recording, only to make the program louder in those moments when someone talks softly to equalize the volume of the recording with the person who talks louder. Programs such as mp3Gain or Sound Normalize change the volume of entire mp3 recordings instead of just at certain times. A lot of videos downloaded from YouTube look like this.

Not that I'm aware of. That's a very specific task that requires quite a lot of work.

The easiest solution would be to compress the dynamic range of the entire recording so that everything is essentially equally loud. This is sometimes also called loudness normalization or RMS level normalization. You can use Audacity or any other audio editor to do this. The main concern when doing this is that you could raise the level of any background noise to a disturbing level so it works best with recordings with virtually no background noise, e.g. no noise from the HVAC system. Otherwise as noted in the other messages, the alternative would be to manually cut and edit segments of the recording to raise the level of the softer parts.
