yes... because dvd players have regions assigned to them.
disks will only play on the correct region player.
there is a hack to change the region on your blueray drive (search "change ps3 blue ray region" on google) but its not really all that user friendly. not sure if replacing the blueray drive with one from your current zone would work or not... you can look that up.
you might want to get a cheap dvd player instead if its just a temporary assignment. if its permanent then perhaps look into a more permanent solution. just remember that if you change your region code your games from usa will not work most likely! (which is why i suggested a dvd player instead)
