Error when rebooting

Archived from groups: microsoft.public.windowsxp.help_and_support (More info?)

Whenever I reboot my computer I get an error saying windows is checking the
file, this type of file is NTFS, cannot open for direct access, windows is
finished checking file. Can anyone tell me how to fix this error?
