When can I buy a Venice core AMD64 CPU?

What is the usual delay between a CPU release and the appearance of it in stores? I emailed newegg last week and received a vague 6-8 weeks answer. Is this typical?

I don't think anyone has a good answer on when Venice will be available. There are such things as "paper launches" of products. A paper launch is announcing a product before it is readily availabile for purchase. I sent an email to AMD last week and the response that I got was:

Unfortunately, we are unable to speculate or comment on unreleased products, as any technical specifications may be subject to change. Please stay tuned to our web site for the latest information. We apologize that we are not able to provide the information you requested.

They're being tight-lipped about it for now.

What? I thought the announcement last week was that Venice had been released. Now it's not released? Wonderful.

When a product is released, is not the same as when support recognizes it as being released.
When the outline goes solid around "venice" @ <A HREF="http://www.amd.com/us-en/Corporate/VirtualPressRoom/0,,51_104_608,00.html" target="_new">http://www.amd.com/us-en/Corporate/VirtualPressRoom/0,,51_104_608,00.html</A>, support will deam it to have been released.
Of course we may all be running venice cores before that happens.

The xbit labs <A HREF="http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/cpu/display/athlon64-venice.html" target="_new">report</A> on the Venice core came out on April 3rd.

A review site saying that the chips are shipping is not the same as AMD releasing the product for sale. Your guess would be as good as mine on when the chip will be available for sale...
