Question Ethernet and WiFi both randomly disconnect ?

I have a problem where my ethernet/wifi keep disconnecting. I say both because when I tried to check if it was just an ethernet problem by just using only wifi, it still disconnects.

I checked if it had something to do with my router, but I don't think so as my other devices still connect perfectly when my computer disconnects. The disconnect seems nonexistent when im just browsing the web but when I play video games it seems to always disconnect. It's not a permanent disconnect, after a while it reconnects back.

Any ideas on what I could do to fix this problem?

Hello, I tried to search up ways to do this but I don't think this is possible due to it being my ISP's router. If there is a way, I'm not very good at the insides computers sorry.

I did find 2 things though. The first thing is that these disconnects seem to affect the games individually. I tried to run 2 games at the same time, and one of them lost connection while the other didn't.

The 2nd thing is that I tried to replicate the first thing to truly confirm it but when I had the two games up and running, I didn't disconnect until I quit one of the games, which in turn proceeded to disconnect the other game that I had running still shortly after. Usually they would disconnect around 5-10 minutes but they didn't disconnect at all in the 30-45 minutes that I was playing them.

Don't know if any of this info helps, but I did find it weird.

Some basic testing should give you a clue what is going down.

I would open 2 cmd windows and leave a constant ping run to your router IP and to 8.8.8.8. Let it run and compare the results when you run games and when you do not. I would not think running the games themselves actually cause the problem but it might. I would also see what you see in the ping windows when you play a youtube video.

My guess is you are getting random packet loss that gets worse as you increase the usage. A youtube video because it has buffers will hide the loss but if it was very bad youtube would drop the resolution or you would get stalls.

You likely will not see packet loss to your router..unless you use wifi which is kinda normal. If you get loss to 8.8.8.8 that generally means you have a issue with the internet connection coming to your house. There is more testing you can do to prove this but I would call the ISP and tell them you have packet loss and see if they can check the connection.

If the ping commands show no loss or if they really only show the loss when you play games then it is something very strange that is not a true network issue.
