Ethernet doesnt have a valid IP configuration

I just built a computer, and I've come to the part of connecting to the internet. I have a desktop downstairs that is connected to the modem, and my newly built desktop and router are upstairs. The router is connected to the desktop, but it says "Ethernet doesn't have a valid IP configuration." I tried creating a new IP, but it says it cant connect to the DHCP server.

how is the new desktop connected to the router? is it using a wired or wireless conection

can use both depends on the system and the way they are connected.... whats your problem?

Go to services.msc and check DHCP client is started.

Router is connected via ethernet to the new computer.

try disabling then re-enabling your network card. in control panel > network connections.
