Ethernet port problems

I'm hoping to find answers to a recent problem with the loss of Internet access. My cable operator says they can see my modem on their end has a good connection. They've also been out and found no problem with their equipment. Even my own computer says I have a local area networking connection yet I still have no Internet connection. I tried another ethernet cable and I've even reinstalled my windows xp operating system but with no change. Can the only conclusion be the ethernet port is bad and can only be replaced with a new motherboard since the ethernet port is directly attached to the motherboard (no separate ethernet card)?

if it is telling you that you have a local area connection it must be some were else is it showing you have a connection in your internet options ?? and have you tried looking at your fire wall some times it will block your internet if nun of this works I would suggest you take it to a computer shop and get them to have a look at it before you go replacing your mobo

Early on I disabled my firewall but with no change in access. While earlier I stated I showed a LAN connection on my task bar, I'm now not showing a LAN connection and I've even installed a new ethernet card but with no change in status. It seems more than a bit odd my mobo clearly works yet my ethernet port is still dead even after swapping out my card. I'm bewildered.

then I know we all hate to go to our local computer shop to get things fixed but I think you mite want to take it in and get him to fix this I think it will be an easy fix for him put if it is the mobo then it mite be easer for you to replace the board sorry nun of my suggestions helped you out

Thank you for your attempt. This one has me a bit confused. Mobo works fine except ethernet port and even new ethernet card doesn't help. I even checked it a few times to make certain I had configured it correctly. While it appears correctly configured, I have to believe otherwise.

If you drop to a command prompt and type in ipconfig, does it show a valid IP address and DNS settings? Also, make sure proxy servers are turned off unless required by your ISP.

Solution turned out to be reformat Hard drive, clean reinstall of Operating system followed by clean install of ethernet card driver. Apparently, other software on harddrive was interfering with new ethernet card driver.
