Hello i recently was able to get a ftw3 3080, can i use a 6+2 cables that has 2 6+2 and a seprate 8 pin plugged into my psu? Thanks for the help!
Both cables are from the extra cables that come with the psuAs long as you are using the cables that came with the PSU and you aren't using splitters you should be OK.
If the 8 pin cable didn't come with the PSU....don't use it unless you know for sure it's correct.
Then it should work as long as the PSU is good and has enough watts....and don't use splitters....ever.Both cables are from the extra cables that come with the psu
They are 8 pins but all of them are 6+2Whats is this exact PSU? It's highly unusual for power supplies to offer a PCIE connection that is an 8-pin rather than a 6+2-pin.
One cable has 2 6+2 on themThey are 8 pins but all of them are 6+2
They are 8 pins but all of them are 6+2
So do i need to use 3 separate 6+2 8pins?Then it should work as long as the PSU is good and has enough watts....and don't use splitters....ever.
My bad, i have a modular psu i have extra slots for whatever i need. The power for the gpu is in the right spot, it has 2 6+2 on it and i plugged another 8pin into the psu and it also has a 6+2 on it.Then what is the 8-pin connector you're referring to? Are you talking about the side that connects to the PSU?
If so, you want to be careful with this terminology; "8 pin" "6+2 pin" "4 pin" and the like are only to describe the pins on the ends that connect to the components, never to the modular PSU. Modular PSU cables are proprietary on the ends that connect to the PSU, with no set number of pins at all. Precision is extremely important here because hooking up the wrong thing to the wrong place can result in the destruction of one or more components.
Don't talk about the connectors on the PSU end. That just ends up confusing people. Talk about the connectors that are supposed to plug into the hardware. My bad, i have a modular psu i have extra slots for whatever i need. So the correct way would be to say i have 3 6+2 plugged into the gpu one of which is one cable with 2 6+2 on itDon't talk about the connectors on the PSU end. That just ends up confusing people. Talk about the connectors that are supposed to plug into the hardware.
If you have enough cables that came with your PSU to satisfy filling the connectors on the video card, then it's fine. And those cables that have two connectors for a video card are fine as long as it came with the PSU.
Okay thanks, i knew what i was trying to say just wording it wrong. Ill try and get more cables so they are separate thanks!I'm assuming you are upgrading your EVGA 1080 SC in your signature and using the same Corsair RM850X listed??
If that is the case, it comes with three PCIe 8 Pin (6+2) that are daisy chained so there are two 6+2 pins on each set that plug into your PSU. I have the HX version and I run the same card with one cable using the daisy chain and one with just one 6+2 installed. It has worked without issues since October. Most will recommend for even loading across the cables to run three individual cables with connecting the main 6+2 pin to the card. This is probably the safest bet but you can do it the way you listed and should be fine.
I wouldn't say "correct" (implies there's only one way), but I would say that this should work.So the correct way would be to say i have 3 6+2 plugged into the gpu one of which is one cable with 2 6+2 on it
Sweet thanksI wouldn't say "correct" (implies there's only one way), but I would say that this should work.
Yes, he is nitpicking. You clearly talk about yourself and not in general. So the correct way would be to say i have 3 6+2 plugged into the gpu one of which is one cable with 2 6+2 on it
