I have been looking at a lot of EVGA PSU's, they are all I use. But where is the return on investment with the ECO mode? Does it really save much wattage by turning off the fan? Is it worth the $20.00 premium?

Solution
It's not about saving power, it's about keeping things quieter.

Is there really a $20 price difference? I would imagine that there are other differences between the 2 PSUs you're looking at.
They are all 650 watt Gold, they have very little differences that I can see. The 2 with ECO mode available are $15-$25 higher, it is really hard to determine the exact differences. Just was trying to figure out what the fan uses in power, since ECO mode appears to only control when fan comes on or off. Models are like GS, G1 & G2. Some claim to be Nexgen ready, Nvidia something, and some other claims. I think it has to do with what power is available at different voltages???

There will be differences in how they were designed/built which you can't tell just from reading the specs, which will affect the quality of the PSU and therefore the price. I'm guessing the two with ECO are the GS and G2? I believe these perform a little better, so if they cost a little more you're paying for the performance, not ECO.

As far as I know: G2>GS>G1. Although it looks like the G1 has a 10 year warranty though, which is pretty nice. I think they're all pretty good though.

I agree they are all good. I have been using EVGA power supplies for every build and rebuild I do. I got a great deal on a P2 650 watt PSU that I using on my main communications machine. Newegg has some amazing deals if you catch them at the right time :)
Maybe I can contact EVGA directly to find out if they have a wattage estimate on the fans used in these power supplies that boast the ECO mode. And as you say, it is also the quietness factor too. I just spent a small fortune on nice Be Quiet fans, because I am extremely noise aware!!
Thank you for your time, I have been keenly aware of electricity costs lately since our power company has been sticking it to us here in the northeast lately. They claim that they can't get enough natural gas now, because the supply pipes are too small fro the demand.....So they charge more for that???
