I bought a notebook computer from my daughter for Christmas. When we opened it we found that the keyboard has a problem. I went online today to chat with a newegg person about returning the computer for exchange. I gathered from the chat that this person was not very enthusiastic about me returning the computer, and they said after they receive it they would require 7-10 days to process the RMA, and then they would look at the product and evaluate it for replacement. For a person that needs her new computer this could end up taking too much time.

Is this a common timeframe for returns to newegg? Are they giving me an estimate of 7-10 days but in reality it will take much less? My other option is to take the computer to an authorized repair center which would take just a few days if they have the parts in stock. I don't know how long it would take if they don't have the parts, and part of me says it is a shame to have to disassemble and repair a brand new product.

Should I send the machine back to newegg for replacement? How long is it likely to take overall from the time I send this one back until the time I receive the replacement? Would I be better off to go to a local warranty repair facility?

I am a little new to newegg. I ordered a lot of parts from them a year ago, and recently I've ordered this computer and parts for a couple of new computers for my office. Everything I've ordered has been shipped promptly and arrived quickly in good condition. This is the first item I've bought that required return, and it's not newegg's fault. I'm getting ready to order enough parts from them for about 3 more new computers.

The next step in this story...
I decided to drive the 10 miles to the local Toshiba repair depot. They confirmed that the keyboard in our computer was warped, but they said they are not allowed to repair it under warranty. They said that now some Toshiba models, including ours, must be returned to China for repair. And not only that we have to wait for them to send us a box FROM China so we can return the laptop in the box back TO China. No telling how long that would take.

I get back on the phone with newegg. When I was online chatting with them yesterday they told me 7-10 days to process an RMA then they have to inspect the package before they send a replacement, but the person on the chat did all they could do to discourage me from returning it. Today I called on the phone, told them I was going to return it and asked that person how long it would take. She said it would take 2-5 business days to process it. That's a little better. I just have to wait for them to send me a shipping label then I can send it back.

This computer was for my daughter to take back to college. Unfortunately she will not be able to do that now.

Hey you might want to visit http://www.eggxpert.com/

It's neweggs community site. Make your problems known on their message board. They have moderators there that can help you with your return at a much faster rate.

I have ordered from newegg before and have have returned things too. They're usually fast with their shipping labels and rma. Once they received my return package I was refunded promptly. I think your issue may be different than mine since yours is a higher value item(notebook) compared to my lower value item(graphics cards).

But just go to their community website. http://www.eggxpert.com/

At that site you can voice your concerns. A lot of new customers and existing customers visit that site so they'll more likely to take care of you there because they want to keep a good image.

If I were in your shoes, I'd totally return it. Forget waiting for a rma from china. That could take forever.

My experience with approximately a half-dozen NewEgg returns over several years: Very Good.

In fact, I cannot imagine anything that would have made them better.

Well... I haven't had to return anything perse but I had a bad experience with shipping once. I bought the components for a $2000 gaming desktop in September of last year. I paid $150 for overnight shipping. Newegg screwed up and didn't send out the packages for another week. They only offered me $20 in return for the inconvenience. Never buying overnight shipping again.

Dear cadder ,

I'd like to apologize for the inconvenience this may have caused. RMA returns can typically take 1-2 weeks for Notebooks, however I'm sure we can put in a request to have it expedited. Please contact me at Maverick.B.Iniguez@newegg.com or call me at 1800-390-1119 ext 25062. and provide me with the sale order number or the RMA number to look into this further.

Thanks,

Newegg.com

Newegg has low prices and customer service to match. It really doesn't matter what they promise to do, because they aren't really going to do it anyways. Buying from Newegg is like gambling. You might get a good deal, but if you have any issues with your purchase, you are in for a nightmare experience with their customer service people. It's too bad, because they could have a good company if they didn't have a bunch of nazis in their customer support dept.
