I bought a notebook computer from my daughter for Christmas. When we opened it we found that the keyboard has a problem. I went online today to chat with a newegg person about returning the computer for exchange. I gathered from the chat that this person was not very enthusiastic about me returning the computer, and they said after they receive it they would require 7-10 days to process the RMA, and then they would look at the product and evaluate it for replacement. For a person that needs her new computer this could end up taking too much time.
Is this a common timeframe for returns to newegg? Are they giving me an estimate of 7-10 days but in reality it will take much less? My other option is to take the computer to an authorized repair center which would take just a few days if they have the parts in stock. I don't know how long it would take if they don't have the parts, and part of me says it is a shame to have to disassemble and repair a brand new product.
Should I send the machine back to newegg for replacement? How long is it likely to take overall from the time I send this one back until the time I receive the replacement? Would I be better off to go to a local warranty repair facility?
I am a little new to newegg. I ordered a lot of parts from them a year ago, and recently I've ordered this computer and parts for a couple of new computers for my office. Everything I've ordered has been shipped promptly and arrived quickly in good condition. This is the first item I've bought that required return, and it's not newegg's fault. I'm getting ready to order enough parts from them for about 3 more new computers.
