So, I have been experiencing stutters and multiple games I play on my new PC I had built around 2 months ago. I have been experiencing these stutters since day one basically. I have tried various things to try to mitigate the stuttering, but nothing has worked.
Some of the games I have had issues with include:
Hogwart's Legacy (the worst of the listed games)
Red Dead Redemption 2
Outward
Ready or Not
Metro Exodus
Chained Together
All on Steam.
Surprisingly, the only games that run okay on my PC is Party Animals, Rocket League, and Black Ops 6 (I think).
My specs are as follows:
RTX 4080 Super
R7 7800X3D
32 GB DDR5 6000 mHz RAM
WD SN850X 2TB
FSP Hydro G Plus Gold 1000W PSU (recommended by the computer store I had my PC built at)
Windows 11
So, I have first and foremost made sure my hardware such as GPU and CPU were working fine. I only used Cinebench 2024 for both, so I have no clue if this is enough testing. I got a score of around 1050 for my CPU (tested 3 times) and a score of 26000 I think for my GPU (only tested once). I used HWmonitor to look at temps while playing games here and there and my CPU temps have gotten to a max temp of 75 degrees while playing RDR2 and GPU gets to around 50 - 60 degrees. I don't think thermals are a problem, but who knows, maybe I need to do more testing on more programs.
What I have tried so far:
-Changing Overclock settings in BIOS to EXPO 1 and 2, as well as creating custom timings based on Buildzoid's Youtube video for Ryzen 7000 series optimal timings. No variation worked.
-Disabled iGPU in BIOS.
-Reinstalled Windows (wiping computer).
-Reinstalled GPU and Chipset drivers.
-Made sure BIOS was updated to latest version.
-Tried using rBAR settings set on in Nvidia Profile Inspector.
-Updated DLSS files in certain games.
-Turned off EnableULPS in Registry Editor Windows 11.
-Tried Control Flow Guard override fix in Exploit Protection for DX12 games (used specific program files for said games I had problems with).
-Downloaded stutter fix mod and dependencies for games like Hogwart's Legacy and RDR2.
-Increased shader cache to carious values.
-Capped frames to something I could run stable (nothing kept my game stable, always dropped in frames randomly).
-Downloaded Western Digital Dashboard app and turned on Game Mode.
-Turned on and off Hardware Accelerated GPU and Windows 11 Game Optimization.
-Turned on max performance for Power Saving mode in Nvidia Control Panel.
-Verified integrity of game files.
-Cleared download cache on Steam.
-Downloaded Rivatuner and MSI Afterburner and capped FPS using them instead of Nvidia Control Panel and Game FPS cap.
-Turned off all overlays.
Thats all I remember doing, but I may be missing some stuff I tried. Nothing has worked and it has been really annoying since I spend most of my time now on games tinkering with settings or straight up just changing settings on my computer to try fixing the issue. I tried all sorts of variations of fixes, but nothing works. I t never ran games completely smooth.
So, just wanted to mention that my main issue is that the 99% FPS I see on Nvidia Overlay drops from frames like 120 to 30 - 60 FPS (random), but for the most part, my average FPS stays around 120 FPS, sometimes up to 5 FPS lower, but for the most part it is at a constant 120, 99% FPS just seems to drop a lot to low FPS causing the stutters.
If there is any other information that I should provide to help with troubleshooting this issue, please let me know. Thank you very much for any help in advance. Would really like to fix this issue as this is getting exhausting and I just want to play my game smoothly rather than spending most of my time trying different computer settings. I know that you need to change around certain settings to get certain games to run optimally on your system, but usually it should only be in the GAME settings rather than a bunch of OS settings and BIOS settings... So I assume something is wrong with a certain setting on Windows, or my hardware settings on my PC, BIOS, or a physical hardware issue, but I have no clue how to pinpoint the issue and am lost now.
