external CPU cooler - will it work?

Here's my idea. My CPU uses a thermaltake HSF and the fan is 80mm. I'd
like to cut a hole in the side panel of my case directly over this, and
add another 80mm fan to the case. Then, connect the 2 with some kind of
duct. There will be outside air blowing directly onto the HSF, instead
of the CPU fan just using case air.

Any downside to this? Should I just place one fan in the case and not
attach the thermaltake fan at all? Anyone tried this before?

Thanks!

Not a new idea i do that, i have a 80mm fan on the side blowing cool
air in, could add a duct i did for a while just alittle cardboard
thing.

It lowers the cpu temp a few degrees.

You should ALWAYS have a fan attached to your CPu heatsink and have it
on :)

If you want the best andf i do mean quiet cpu cooler get a Zalman
7000a i can run that at 1500 rpm and keep my cpu cool :)

By the way going to cut a BIGGER hole in my case and put a 120mm fan
in the side, much more CFM and alot less noisy, adding one to the top
as well, and would love to add on to the rear but no space, but i do
have a 120mm fan at the bottom front :0

If it makes you feel any better, YES its ALL YOUR IDEA, no one ever
thought of it :)

Hope this helps.
